Catheter fragment and embolism are serious complications associated with the use of an intravenous catheter for contrast media bolus injection, and may be followed by serious or lethal sequelae. This study was conducted to know the applications of three dimensional volume rendering of threshold value difference of intravenous catheter fragment using a muliti-detector CT. MDCT data of an IV catheter fragment was transferred from MDCT scanner via to a workstation. This study demonstrates the utility of volume rendering technique to localize a small, subtle IV catheter, which can easily be reformatted of MDCT reformations. IV catheter fragment optimal image described as threshold range of 143-1398 HU. Volume rendering using a MDCT is an excellent method for evaluation the intravenous catheter fragment in three dimension.
